United Way Website Design Wins National Awards

Written by: Phillip Nones

The United Way of Kent County (UWKC) has been named a winner in two national marketing communications awards competitions. UWKC won a Gold trophy in the 16th annual Service Industry Advertising Awards competition along with receiving a second Gold trophy from the 15th annual MarCom Awards for its new website.

The UWKC website was designed and developed by Mullin/Ashley Associates, Inc., a Chestertown-based branding, communications, web design and PR firm. The site was launched in 2018.

The purpose of the website is to help the community connect with the United Way when assistance is needed, as well as to learn about volunteer opportunities and make financial donations. Among the key features of the website is a special login area for local organizations to submit their allocation applications, engage in confidential communications with UWKC staff, and submit nominations for the local United Way chapter’s Volunteer of the Year award. A similar section of the website is designated for use by UWKC board members.

Mullin/Ashley built the new website on the WordPress platform, which included incorporating a user-friendly content management function that enables UWKC’s administrative staff to make website edits and updates without the need for special programming knowledge.

Speaking about the awards, Elizabeth Everett, UWKC’s executive director stated, “In addition to the vibrant and modern appearance of our new website, we’ve been more than pleased with how easy it is for the community to engage with United Way of Kent County. For many people, the website is the key way they learn about our mission and work in Kent County. It is now simple for the public to learn, communicate, and donate, which is why the new website is so valuable for everyone.”

Commenting on his company’s wins for the UWKC website development, Phillip Nones, Mullin/Ashley president, stated, “National competitions like the SIA and MarCom awards allow us to be judged according to rigorous standards of marketing and design excellence. We’re particularly gratified to be recognized in two well-established competitions that attract thousands of entries each year from all across the United States.”
