For Immediate Release...

HAYWARD  BAKER  OPENS  NEW  SAN  DIEGO  OFFICE  TO

SUPPORT  CUSTOMERS  IN  SOUTHERNMOST

CALIFORNIA,  PLUS  ARIZONA  AND  MEXICO

San Diego, Cal., December 18, 2007 – Hayward Baker, Inc., North America’s leading geotechnical contractor, announces the opening of a new sales, project management and engineering services office in San Diego, Cal.  The office supports customers and projects in four California counties (San Diego, Orange, Riverside, Imperial) as well as in Arizona and Mexico.

The opening of the new San Diego office emphasizes the longstanding relationships the company maintains with contractors, geotechnical consultants and commercial property developers in the region, dating back to the time when Hayward Baker acquired Denver Grouting, a company with an established presence in the San Diego area.

Recent Hayward Baker projects are illustrative of the work conducted in the region.  These include soil stabilization and preparation for Westfield’s Plaza Bonita shopping mall in National City, Cal.  Hayward Baker’s stabilization of Navy Pier 11-A enables thousands of tourists to park and visit the San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum.  Most recently, the company has been tapped to design stone columns, soil mix columns, excavation support and shoring systems for the new Nickelodeon theme hotel being constructed in downtown San Diego.

Other Hayward Baker projects in the region include stone columns and compaction grouting work performed for two high-profile San Diego-area condominium developments (Carriage House and Marina Vista), as well as the construction of the new interstate highway interchange at I-5 and I-805.

In Arizona, Hayward Baker has performed repair projects involving chemical grouting and cement grouting at three major dam sites (Horse Mesa Dam, Bartlett Dam and Granite Reef Dam), as well as numerous projects for Del Webb Homes at various “mature lifestyle” development locations.

The San Diego office is also responsible for handling projects in Mexico.  One current example is a new gold mine being opened in Chihuahua province involving jet grouting and compaction grouting.

According to Alan Ringen, senior vice president of Hayward Baker’s Western Region, many general contractors in the San Diego market prefer to deal with local service providers, in part due to the logistical difficulties encountered in traveling between major urban markets in California.  “Our new office in San Diego gives us much easier access to contractors and others in the area.  As a global geotechnical contracting firm, we offer leading services and technology – and now we’re offering it to them in their own back yard,” he noted.

Among the general contractors Hayward Baker works with in the region are Hensel Phelps and PCL.  The company also works closely with key geotechnical consulting firms such as Kleinfelder, Ninyo & Moore, and URS Corporation that maintain offices in the San Diego area.

Hayward Baker’s new San Diego office will be headed by Jack Kinley.  Kinley, a 35+ year industry veteran, joined Hayward Baker in 2001, most recently working at the company’s Western Region facility located in Santa Paula, Cal.  Kinley began his career at Elgin Exploration in Calgary, Alberta (Canada).  Later, he joined Boyles Brothers Drilling in Salt Lake City, staying on when the firm became part of Layne Christensen.  In addition to his technical, project managerial and staff management experience, Kinley has also consulted on a variety of projects spanning the globe from Canada to the South Pacific islands.  One of his primary engineering specialties is dam curtain grouting.

Commenting on his new position as head of Hayward Baker’s San Diego office, Kinley said, “I’m able to use my background and experience in geotechnical engineering and specialty contracting, while also working in business development and customer support.  I love all aspects of the work.”

The San Diego office of Hayward Baker is located at 301 Enterprise Street, Escondido, Cal.  For more information on the services offered by the office, contact Jack Kinley at 858-514-2170.  For a complete listing of Hayward Baker regional offices, visit www.haywardbaker.com/locations.
