HAYWARD  BAKER  APPOINTS  NEW  CHIEF  ENGINEERS 

 

Odenton, Md., May 16, 2007 – Hayward Baker, Inc., North America’s leading geotechnical contractor, announces the appointment of a new Chief Engineer for the company’s Southern Region.

 

Edward J. Garbin, Ph.D, P.E., has been named Chief Engineer for Hayward Baker’s Southern Region Tampa, Florida Office.  As Chief Engineer, Dr. Garbin leads the design of specialty geotechnical systems, research and development involving new and existing technologies, as well as design and implementation of instrumentation and load testing.

 

Prior to joining Hayward Baker, Dr. Garbin was a geotechnical engineering manager and drilling manager for Universal Engineering Sciences in Tampa, Fla.  He has held positions with Applied Foundation Testing, Inc. and McClymont & Rak Engineers, as well as serving as adjunct professor at the University of South Florida in Tampa.  Dr. Garbin holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering from the University of South Florida, as well as a Ph.D degree from the same institution with a concentration in geotechnical engineering.

Hayward Baker also announces the promotion of Dennis W. Boehm, to Chief Engineer for the company’s Central Region.  In his new responsibilities, Boehm is in charge of design and estimating for a variety of ground modification projects.  He is based out of the company’s Gulf Coast Area Office in Houston, Texas.

 

Boehm has nearly 20 years of engineering design, supervision and onsite project management experience, and has been with Hayward Baker since 1990.  Until his most recent promotion, he served as an area manager for the company’s Central Region where he was involved in many noteworthy ground modification initiatives including projects performed for Houston International Airport, Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, Cottonwood Power in Beaumont, Tex., and Kraft Foods in Russellville, Ark.  Prior to joining Hayward Baker in 1990, Boehm worked for PRESCON Corporation in the heavy construction industry.  He holds a B.S. degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University.

 

Commenting on the appointment of Boehm, George Grisham, president, stated, “Dennis’s strong history with Hayward Baker evidenced by his long resume of successful projects is something that all of our engineers strive for. He is a specialist in jet grouting, soil mixing, and many other Hayward Baker services.  His new position makes him more available to assist other Central Region engineers with their challenges involving these services.
